Transplanting Information

It is very common to see trees that were planted too close together as small seedlings. At the time that they’re planted it’s hard imagine the tree at its full size. When we are laying out a row of small seedlings, it seems like the trees are miles apart and it will take years to become large.

Trees require patience and time to become a beautiful mature size. When they grow we often find that they become too large for the area they were planted. This is where we come in…

How the process works…

After our initial contact we will come out and do a site visit with you to see exactly what it is you would like done. We do this to get a visual of the area, gain insight for the purpose of moving the tree(s), check soil/drainage conditions for your property and ensure there’s enough room for us to get in with our equipment.

Access and utilities can be some of our largest challenges especially since truck mounted tree spades require room to maneuver. Things such as hills, ditches, fences, decks, buildings, weeping beds, septic tanks and other trees can pose challenges.

Above and below ground utility lines need to be well clear of the access point and where the work is intended to be done. By law we require locates for every job. Getting locates is simple, free of charge, requires up to 5 days to complete and obtaining them is part of the services we provide. We lay out the area where the tree(s) will be planted then request the locates. Once the locates are complete and the work area is clear, we continue with our work. If not we adjust the planting site around any utilities.

When we start we dig the first hole where the tree is intended to go and then take that plug of dirt to either an existing hole or drop it beside where the tree will be removed so it can be backfilled later.

Benefits of using a truck mounted tree spade is that the tree is moved quickly and is only out of the ground for a short period of time. Also, using tree spades ensures that the rootball fits almost exactly into the hole because both are dug using the same machine which helps to prevent air gaps around the roots for increased survival of the tree.
